Fashion at the Barre

On Friday, November 6th at Saks Fifth Avenue in Philadelphia, the Fashion at
the Barre event was an occasion where attendees could sip, shop, and see a
fashion show in a glitzy yet intimate way. This was the 4th year for the event,
and setting the fashion bar higher was something all involved in the planning
worked hard to achieve. Upon my first steps into Saks on City Line Avenue I was
greeted warmly and immediately engaged with guests anticipating the Libertine
trunk fashion show. Of course some light refreshments and cocktails was
something to look forward to on a Friday evening. The atmosphere was contagious
with friendly smiles and fashionable inspiration from the Chanel store to the
handmade unique and modern jewelry by Zoë Chicco.

Fashion at the Barre was hosted by the Pennsylvania Ballet and creatively led
by Edward Barnes who tied all of the fashionable threads together. The fashions
during the show were by Libertine, a pop art and graphics driven line of
clothing. With experience as a ballet dancer and his role as the Pennsylvania
Ballet Corps de Ballet Member and Saks Selling Associate, Edward Barnes had a
clear vision with his direction for the 20 minute show. From pieces with neon
colors, fitted dresses, patchwork on jackets, to lyrics of "Clair de Lune" by
composer Claude Debussy, written in sparkly silver cursive letters on a cool
coat. There was also fur collars ranging from bright orange to light blue, plus
darker ensembles that shows Libertine offers an eclectic range of styles for men
and women.

Company members from the Pennsylvania Ballet accessorized with jewelry by
Designer Zoë Chicco and strutted down the short runway. Even a cute black dog
joined the fun as the up-tempo music played during the trunk show where every
seat was filled. "Libertine is not an overly trendy line," said organizer Edward
Barnes who described his personal style as all black with a 'classic twist.' The
Fashion at the Barre event was nothing short of stylish looks as Edward sported
a deep blue and black suit jacket with a zebra print and satin lapels by The
Kooples. His Jimmy Choo blue suede tasseled shoes were the perfect touch for
such an ultra unique event, 10% of sales were donated to the Pennsylvania Ballet
from Saks Fifth Avenue.

It was an evening that encompassed style and taking strides in your
creativity, something Zoë Chicco displays with her "classic and timeless
everyday pieces," as she described them. Just as her in house L.A. based line of
handmade jewelry can be customized, so can your sense of style. As the Artistic
Director at the Pennsylvania Ballet Angel Corella put it while wearing a
velvet-gray Paul Smith blazer, a white button-down shirt and black tie, "Fashion
and dance is a way to communicate and express."

Even on a budget fashion is all about creative expression. So continue to
dance your way, with style!
