How to get Diwali ready

This festive season, go bold with berry lips, classy updos, glitter
eyeliners...

Festivities are incomplete without colours. This season, infuse a bit of
colour in your hair and make-up by sporting a bright pout or going for an
electric blue eye liner; graphic liners are a rage these days! "Also, white
eyeliner is in trend and a boon for people with small eyes. You can magnify the
peepers using a white liner on your waterline and let your eyes look
larger-than-life," says beauty expert Ishika Taneja.

This season, aim for subtle, pinkish glow on your face rather than going
over-the-top with cakey make-up. "As Diwali party venues are adorned with yellow
light that causes heat, remember to use waterproof make-up to avoid smudging,"
says make-up expert Rittu Kumar. A mousse, souffle and waterproof concealer can
help you achieve the dance-ready look.

The key to elegant festive make-up is highlighting only one facial feature at
a time. "If you're keeping your eyes subtle, sport a bright mouth with a reds,
fuchsia or maroon. If you're eye makeup is loud, go for a nude pout with a shade
of peach to avoid tackiness," says beauty and make-up expert Priya Kapur.

Glam quotient

For the elegant festive look, tie back your hair in a low slick back
ponytail. Keeping in mind the festive attire, keep the make-up muted while
playing up the eyes only. Use a subtle graphic liner, a bronze shadow all over
the eyelid and smudge it with black eye shadow. Keep the lips neutral using
flesh-toned lip colour, accentuating the pout with a nude gloss.

Carry quirk

Try a half-up messy braided bohemian hairstyle to add the quirk factor to the
festive season. Smoke the eyes with a deep burgundy creme eye shadow, enhancing
the eyes with a glitter graphic liner. Finish the look with a natural pink cheek
tint, to help contour and a get a healthy flushed look. Work the lips with a
high shine gloss, blending in a berry lip liner.

Festive make-up looks 2015

Berry lips

The first step is to keep the base perfect, matching your skin tone. Next,
apply peach blusher or any light shade, matching your ensemble. Keep the eye
shadow a muted metallic and then apply eyeliner and kohl. Finally, keep your
eyebrows natural and bold and enhance your lashes with a lash defining mascara.
Finish the look by applying a berry colour lipstick. Pin your hair on one side
waving the loose hair neatly to complete the look.

Smokey eyes

This look is apt for a day celebration or get-together. To get this look,
apply a voluminizing mascara on the lashes, keeping the eyebrows natural.
Enhance the eyes with a mix of dark shadows like chocolate brown or black. Next
step is to apply an orange or peach lip tint to mix in the runway looks of the
year. Contouring is not required for this look and the base is kept very subtle.
Apply a coral blusher lightly and blend it well. A messy French braid looks
fabulous with this look.

Ethnic elegance

The festive season is all about being traditional. Start by keeping the
foundation natural by applying BB or CC cream. Go for light contouring with
powder to highlight cheekbones and forehead. Matte red lips work well with the
look. Apply two shades on the eyes, golden in the inner side, giving it a
semi-smokey look. Contour the outer crease with a dark brown and blend the two
shades well. Apply a thin line of eyeliner, avoid kohl and instead apply a lash
lengthening mascara to enhance the eyes in a much sober way. Make a messy low
bun in the hair with some fragrant fresh flowers to complete the look.

5 Qucik tips

- Consider foundation as a sort of primer for your canvas. Once you have the
primer on, you can paint with any of the beautiful colours you choose. If you
have great skin, you can opt for a tinted moisturizer, instead of
foundation.

- Use a make-up setting spray that will keep you're make-up looking as fresh
as a daisy.

- Always start with your hair down and work your way up. Twists and braids
are simple to create and can be done without the luxury of a mirror!

- Big hair is sure to grab the attention at evening parties. Chignons,
quiffs, plaits, ponytails, glamour curls or teased back hair work well as
high-volume styles.

- Anything goes at festivals no matter what your age. Be bold and have a play
with glitter eyeliners. They can be used for a dramatic effect or dabbed over
the eyelid as an eyeshadow.
