AIFW: Nida Mahmood
Designer Nida Mahmood says she found a muse in the free-spirited women of
1960s Mumbai for her collection titled ‘Junglee Billee’, but it’s also a
dedication to her cat, Mr Toffee Tinkerbell.
“My very own #jungleebillee is very excited for the show this time,” Mahmood
posted on Facebook with images of her pet a few days before the show on the
third day of Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2016 on Friday.
She had wanted to bring her pet to her show, but the bright lights and noise
saw her change her mind. “I didn’t want to be selfish,” she said.
Cat or no cat, her sporty, easy and relaxed collection was popular, with
dresses, trousers with tops and saris with tights, in fabrics such as crepes,
satin and net.
The music and cat-eye glasses matched with the theme of the collection that
was mostly.
Known for her dramatic shows, this season she made a “conscious decision not
to make it over the top”.
“I wanted to play with simple things. The drama was in the music. We recorded
Bollywood films’ dialogues and converted them into cat situations,” she said
after the show, referring to dialogues such as “In kutto ke samne mat nachna”
(don’t dance in front of these dogs) from iconic film “Sholay”.
She paired florals with adidas Originals sneakers, and instead of a bag or
clutch, the models held cameras or perfumes or radios.
